Linda and Mike's Family

Linda got in touch with me after high school friends and clients Alison and Beth kindly recommended me to her for a session with her blended family.

I arrived early at our meeting place, Horn Pond in Woburn. I hadn’t been there before and wanted to scope it out before starting around with the family for their session. Our meeting time came and I didn’t see the family - I knew there was Mike and Linda, their golden retriever Jax, and four nearly adult kids with a fifteen year old being the youngest.

I spotted such a family, but they were being photographed already. Something seemed weird to me. Was that my family and had they brought a friend to take photos during our session? Or maybe they’re just playing around before I find them? I was so confused! Perhaps it was just a coincidence that another family with grown kids were having a session at the same time.

I kept side-eyeing the group with that other photographer though. That dog! Along with sending the names and ages of everyone as I’d requested, Linda also sent me a photo of her dog, Jax. Golden and white-faced. That was the dog!

Then as I milled around awkward and confused, I heard some of them say “Summer!” which is Linda’s daughter’s name. That’s when I knew for sure, THIS WAS MY FAMILY!

I approached them and we discovered that the photographer who was working with them had also been waiting for a client named Linda. Apparently the photographer had not really introduced herself or asked for everyone’s names before jumping in and starting a session with the wrong family.

“Well, thanks for warming them up for me!” I joked with the photographer and we had a good laugh.

The family and I marveled at the bizarreness of the situation as we made our way to the first spot for a photo, and Linda said “Somehow it didn’t seem right!” She felt the personality of the imposter photographer didn’t match up with what she expected from someone recommended by Alison and Beth, two of the funniest women you’ll meet. Linda also noted that the other photographer was posing them in a way that didn’t seem to match with my style of shooting.

As we stood pond-side for our first shots, I said or did something goofy or funny and Linda said, with some relief “OK, yes, this makes much more sense!”

We had a delightful time, and I discovered beautiful Horn Pond in the process!

Watch How They Grow! {Boston Family Photography}

I've been photographing this family for over twenty years, ever since I was a budding photographer, young teenager, and a babysitter for CJ (far left int he first photo) and Tori (far right in the first photo).

Since then, I've had the pleasure of shooting Amy and CJ's engagement photos Amy and CJ's wedding, Finley as a newborn, Vivian as a newborn, and lots of times in between and since!

Here is the family's annual shoot, including Meimei, Papa, and Tori this time!

The W Family {Boston Family Photographer}

Lizzi told me she found me on a random web search, and I feel lucky for that! When I met her and her family at Menatomy Rocks Park, there was something very familiar about them. Maybe it was that their eldest daughter brought Harry Potter to the photo shoot (the book, not the actual wizard), or that when Lizzi contacted me for a session there was a slight sense of urgency because the aforementioned Harry Potter-loving eldest child's front teeth were growing in!  I felt this was the kind of urgency I could get behind. These are my kind of people.

They had an easiness about them that was a joy to be around. Photo sessions can be stressful, but you wouldn't know it if you were watching them!

• Fall Sessions Wrap-Up! {Boston Family Photographer} •

Autumn was busy and fun for Cydney Scott Photography! Here's a peek at some of those sessions. We had twins, we had grown siblings, we had extended families, dancing, tree hunting and even a few beloved family dogs! We can't forget them!

• End-of-Summer Wrap-Up! {Boston Portrait Photographer} •

It was a hectic summer for Cydney Scott Photography and I'm sure everyone can relate. I decided to do and end-of summer wrap-up post here, sharing the greatest hits of the tail end of summer which included a very foggy mini session day (as always my clients were completely on-board despite the odd weather pattern. I'm one lucky photog!), a session in western MA, another on the cape and even a session with some family members of my own! Fluffy dogs, bikes in dresses, and bubbles. What more could you need in life?

• Maddie and Her Little Sister Isabelle {Boston Family Photographer}•

I first met Maddie and her parents Jeff and Debbie years ago, when Maddie was just a bitty thing.

Now, Maddie is a big sister to Isabelle, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her, and seeing Maddie and their parents again. Look at those baby blues!

Kristin and Co. {Boston Family Portrait Photographer}

Kristin, her husband Will and their four legged Cocoa met me at the wonderful Wright's Pond for a session. Unfortunately, they brought their really difficult and ugly kids Hanley and Davis (insert sarcasm font here).  At the risk of sounding like a sixteen year old, they were adorbs!

Sandi and her Family

I've been photographing Sandi, her husband Brian, and their kids for years and years and oh-my-gosh-look-how-little!, and I always enjoy seeing them. This year we met at Salem Willows Park (the site of this year's Fall Session Day)

One extra nice thing about Sandi is that she always reminds me and encourages me to shoot candid when I'm with her family. Sometimes I get so into portrait mode that I forget the strength that comes from being a fly on the wall, and the fact that I love shooting that way!

Ryan's Family

I love hearing from Ryan. She, her husband and three little ones are fun and kind and whenever I hear from her it means her family is growing. This time, Theo's arrived!

• Sienna is Here! {Boston Area Newborn Photo Sessions} •

Too much time has passed since I had this delightful shoot with newborn Sienna with her big brother Asher and their parents Laurie and Jake. But, if you're familiar with my site you'll notice it's been redesigned. So I wanted to wait to post this entry until the new site was live.

Do a search for "Asher" and you'll find his newborn session from just a few short years ago. Do a search for "Laurie and Jake" and you'll find their wedding too!

Laurie and Jake told me they weren't positive about what name to choose for their little girl until she joined the world with her bright red hair, so Sienna she became.  They also say she's a feisty one. As a fellow redhead, I can appreciate that!

Finley and Vivian {Boston Portrait and Family Photographer}

These two had the nerve to both have winter birthdays. Sheesh! So, we headed out into the very snowy outdoors to photograph Vivian, 1, and Finley, 3. (I'd make a joke about their adorableness melting the snow, but I pride myself on more witty humor).

Still pretty dang cute, snow or no snow.

Fall Sessions 2014 {Boston Portrait Photographer}

With the cute kid factor off the charts, beautiful weather and perfect fall leaves, this year's fall sessions were a great success! My clients were rock stars, taking on the crazy Salem traffic and even a rain delay in the middle of the day. Salem Willows Park was a new location for CSP and it served my current and new clients well, I thought!

The Callanans {Boston portrait photographer}

I got an email from the wife of a classmate of mine from good old Wakefield High weeks ago. Her in-laws had their heart on our beautiful Wakefield Common, and while I tried to talk them out of it because getting nice shots there can be trickier that one might think (people on the common, on the gazebo, poor light, too much green glow from trees, a dark gloomy lake), they wanted to give it a try anyway. We got a beautiful day for it and they were such a fun bunch to work with too!

Amy's Family {Boston Family Portraits}

The last time I saw Amy with her kids in my parents neighborhood where they live, Fiona was a baby and Aidan was a toddler not really talking much. My how time changes things! My favorite quote of the session (aside from the kids impersonating the intro to AFV "And now here's your host! Tommmmm Bergeroooooooonnnnn!") was when Fiona looked up at her mom and said "You look like a pirate princess!"

And P.S. I wanna find Fiona's white top in my size.
